Art Teacher

Position Overview

The K–8 Art Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive visual arts program that fosters creativity, skill development, and artistic expression for students in kindergarten through grade eight. The teacher creates an engaging, inclusive classroom environment that supports the development of the whole child and integrates art with broader academic and social-emotional learning goals.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate art lessons aligned with state and school standards
  • Teach a variety of media and techniques (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art)
  • Integrate art history, cultural awareness, and contemporary practices into instruction
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with IEPs and 504 plans

Classroom Environment

  • Create a safe, organized, and inspiring art studio/classroom
  • Establish clear expectations for behavior, routines, and use of materials
  • Promote creativity, risk-taking, and respect for diverse perspectives

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

  • Assess student work using clear criteria and provide constructive feedback
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
  • Communicate student growth and achievements with families and staff

Program Management

  • Manage art supplies, materials, and budget responsibly
  • Maintain equipment and ensure proper safety procedures
  • Organize and display student artwork throughout the school

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field
  • NH State valid teaching certification preferred
  • Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students preferred

  • Ability to inspire creativity and engage a wide range of learners
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of diverse artistic techniques and cultural perspectives
